Unmissable Opening Event!
Get ready for an unmissable NZGDC opening event!
While the New Zealand Game Developers Conference (NZGDC) starts tomorrow (Thursday) with an offering of unique and creative workshops, the opening event is on Friday morning at Tākina and it’s one you won’t want to miss!
Kicking things off with energy and spirit is a traditional kapa haka from Hiwa Crew, honouring New Zealand’s rich heritage and showcasing some of the creativity that fuels our local game dev community, while supporting this year’s theme – the People at the Heart of Games.
By celebrating our diverse stories and talents, we reinforce that games are about people, their stories, and the shared experiences that bring us together.
We look forward to the Ministerial address from Hon. Dr Shane Reti, which will include results from the NZGDA 2025 Industry Survey, and details of the Year 2 GDSR review.
Following this address is our keynote presentation from David Gaider and Liam Esler of Summerfall Studios, known for their innovative storytelling and captivating games. They’ll share the triumphs and tears that have made up Summerfall’s journey, along with the insights they’ve gleaned along the way.
This opening event sets the stage for an inspiring, energetic, and collaborative conference. Whether you’re a developer, artist, writer, or gamer, the NZGDC opening event is your chance to connect with industry leaders, celebrate our local culture, and get inspired for the days ahead.
See you at Tākina (26th September) for an 8.30am start! It’s a can't-miss event that will energise your passion for games and innovation in Aotearoa.
